Frogwares has turned The Sinking City 2 away from the first game’s open-world detective structure and toward a more focused survival horror experience set in a flooded Lovecraftian New England city called Arkham. [1, 2, 3]

The sequel is not a direct continuation of the first game’s story. It stars detective Calvin Rafferty rather than Charles Reed, and he is trying to save or revive his lover, Faye, whose condition sits at the center of the plot. [1, 3]

Preview reports say the game leans hard into survival horror staples, with limited ammunition, puzzles, locked doors and enemy encounters. One previewer summed up the tone by saying, “This is Resident Evil: 1929.” [2, 3]

Frogwares, a Ukrainian studio, has been working under the strain of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The developer was hit by the economic and material fallout in 2022, and it completed a Kickstarter campaign for The Sinking City 2 in 2025. [1]

Rock Paper Shotgun said the game is due to release later in 2025, and IGN said its reporter spent a couple of hours with the game earlier this month. [1, 2]
