IO Interactive announced today that 007 First Light has sold 4 million copies worldwide since its launch in May 2026 [1, 2, 3]. The game reached 2.7 million sales just over one week after release [1].
Developed and self-published by IO Interactive, 007 First Light is an origin story following a young James Bond training in the double-oh program [1, 2, 3]. The studio is now committed to a year of ongoing content updates, including New Game+ modes, new challenges, and a new mission featuring the character Bawma played by Lenny Kravitz [2, 3].
A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also currently in development [1, 2, 3].
The game was developed under the ownership of MGM and EON Productions, but Amazon now holds the James Bond IP rights after its acquisition [3]. Jeff Gatis, Amazon Game Studios boss, said the success of 007 First Light likely means IO Interactive will be involved in future Bond game projects but that no official sequel plans have yet been announced [2]. "Given the success of this one, we would probably want IO Interactive to develop a sequel," he said [2].
Meanwhile, IO Interactive’s other project, an RPG codenamed Project Dragon, has faced layoffs and funding setbacks following changes to its Xbox deal [1, 3].
IO Interactive plans to roll out its content updates for 007 First Light throughout the rest of 2026 and into 2027 [2, 3].
