Nintendo announced Pictonico!, a free-to-start mobile game that uses players' own photos to create quirky minigames inspired by WarioWare-style gameplay. The game was officially revealed on May 19, with pre-registration now open on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store [1, 2, 3, 4].
Pictonico! will launch globally on May 28, 2026, for iOS and Android devices [1, 2, 3, 4]. It features roughly 80 minigames designed around portrait photos players provide. These minigames include mechanics like distorting faces and placing them in humorous, outlandish scenarios. Nintendo offered colorful examples: "Here come your school's sports stars… strutting down the red carpet! Your boss is hungry and needs your help! Try to wash away those embarrassing high-school memories. Son won't quiet down? Zip his mouth! Two old friends reconnect while skydiving! Grandpa dressed like a ballerina. Can't miss this photo op," the company said [2].
The game is free to download with a demo containing three minigames. Additional volumes of minigames will be sold separately, with prices expected between $5.99 and $7.99 per volume [1, 2, 3, 4]. The modes include a series of stages, a score attack mode, and a fortune telling mode, offering variety beyond the core minigames [3, 4].
Nintendo emphasized privacy, stating photos taken or used in the game are never uploaded to servers and remain solely on players' devices. The app requires internet connection only initially and for downloads or purchases [1, 4].
The game’s official site invites players by saying, "Your photos now a game! Sure, it’s kind of silly… But there’s no telling what will happen next!" [3].
Nintendo plans to release Pictonico! worldwide on May 28, with pre-orders currently available.
