Paradox Interactive will release Fate of the Phoenix, the first big expansion for Europa Universalis 5, on May 6. The Byzantine Empire-themed add-on focuses on bureaucracy, Orthodoxy and restoring the Pentarchy, the company said. [1]
Paradox said the empire has been "betrayed by former allies to the west and besieged by rising powers to the east" and reduced to "its Greek and Thracian heartlands" in the expansion blurb. It said players will be able to "restore the Pentarchy to strengthen the Eastern Church." [1]
The publisher described Fate of the Phoenix as the game’s first big DLC and first Immersion pack. It adds new Eastern Mediterranean art, military units, events, subjects and character-related actions. [1]
Paradox will sell the expansion separately for $9.99, £8.49 or €9.9. It will also be included in the game’s Premium edition. [1]
The release is set for May 6, 2026. [1]
