Pearl Abyss revealed the first major expansion for Crimson Desert, titled Charting the Unknown, during the PlayStation State of Play showcase on September 2, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The DLC will launch worldwide on October 15, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

Charting the Unknown continues Crimson Desert’s story with characters Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane exploring new lands beyond the original game’s setting. The expansion is set in a hidden land known as a "second crimson desert," with a deep history and tales of many fallen there [1, 5]. "Reclaim power and reach beyond—into the unknown. The story of Pywel continues in Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown as Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane set out to discover their purpose and shape their futures," the DLC synopsis states [1].

The expansion features a diverse mix of gameplay genres, including role-playing, city and base building, underwater exploration, sailing ships, and mech combat elements [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Players can build and decorate mansions or castles with Sims-like furniture placement mechanics, plus new gameplay such as homesteading, romance and proposal interactions, riding dragons, scuba diving using jetpacks, running on water, and piloting ships [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

Pre-order bonuses include early 20th-century style scuba diving gear and specialized Charter's Light Diving sets [1, 2, 3]. Pearl Abyss also recently released a free Enhanced upgrade for the base game adding new skills, story content, localizations, and gameplay improvements [2].

In August 2026, Pearl Abyss announced plans to bring Crimson Desert to the Switch 2 and to explore multiplayer and live service models for the game moving forward [2].

The next key milestone will be the DLC’s worldwide release on October 15, 2026.
