Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have requested the GTA 5 multiplayer modding platform Rage:MP to shut down its services and migrate users to the FiveM platform, which is now the only authorized GTA 5 modding platform under Rockstar's Platform License Agreement (PLA) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

Rage:MP will begin a structured shutdown, with its public server listing closing on June 1, 2026, and complete operations ending by August 31, 2026 [1, 3, 4, 5]. Starting May 25, 2026, no new Rage:MP servers are accepted, and public access to its server toolkit has been discontinued [4, 5].

The Rage:MP development team acknowledged the announcement, saying, "Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have made it clear that FiveM is the only authorized platform for GTAV multiplayer modding... We are asking all server owners to wind down their operations and migrate to FiveM" [2]. They added, "We know this is tough news for everyone... we will continue to do everything we can to make the switch over as smooth as possible" [1].

FiveM became the official and sole authorized multiplayer modding platform after Take-Two acquired its developer Cfx.re in August 2023. This followed earlier legal pressure in 2015 when Rockstar attempted to shut down FiveM for hosting an unauthorized multiplayer service [2, 3, 5].

Rage:MP had been a fan-run modding platform active since at least 2018, supporting multiplayer and roleplay communities for GTA 5 [5]. The shutdown comes just months before the expected marketing push for Grand Theft Auto 6, signaling a tightening of official control over GTA modding [1, 5].

Server owners and developers on Rage:MP are encouraged to migrate their communities and content to FiveM to continue operations without disruption [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

By August 31, 2026, all Rage:MP services including game clients, server toolkits, and backend infrastructure will cease functioning, completing the migration to FiveM [1, 3, 4, 5].
