The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide, CD Projekt Red announced in May 2026 [1, 2, 3]. The game, which marked its 11th anniversary this year, ranks as the eighth best-selling video game of all time, positioned behind Terraria and ahead of the original Super Mario Bros [2, 3].
Alongside the sales milestone, CD Projekt revealed the new expansion, Songs of the Past, which is in an advanced stage of development and will star Geralt, the franchise’s iconic protagonist [1, 2]. Michal Nowakowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt Red, said, "The return of Geralt after more than one decade will be an excellent adventure, and a trip down memory lane, before we pass the baton to Ciri in the upcoming The Witcher 4" [1].
Songs of the Past is expected to offer roughly 28 hours of gameplay, matching the length of the previous major expansion, Blood and Wine, according to Laura Beitzel, CD Projekt’s social media manager, who said, "Songs of the Past will be aligned with what you’re familiar with from Blood and Wine" [2]. Despite official support for the standalone Gwent: The Witcher Card Game ending in 2023, the expansion will introduce new Gwent cards [2].
CD Projekt sees the expansion as a way to introduce many gamers to The Witcher universe for the first time, a goal Nowakowski described as a new opportunity for the franchise [1]. Piotr Nielubowicz, CD Projekt CFO, noted, "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which recently celebrated its 11th anniversary, has just crossed another spectacular sales threshold: 65 million copies. This cements its place among the best-selling videogames in history" [3].
CD Projekt is also developing The Witcher 4 starring Ciri, an expansive remake of the original Witcher, and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 [2]. The Witcher 3 had reached 60 million copies sold in 2025 [3].
CD Projekt Red’s next major release in The Witcher series remains the Songs of the Past expansion, currently nearing completion.
