Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics have pushed back the release of Tomb Raider: Catalyst from 2027 to 2028, CEO Jeffrey Gattis confirmed in an interview with The Game Business in August 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. "We have announced the two Tomb Raider titles. [Legacy of] Atlantis comes February 12 next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one," Gattis said [1, 2, 4].
Catalyst, developed on Unreal Engine 5, is set in Northern India and will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S [1, 3]. It will be the first PlayStation 5 Tomb Raider game without a physical disc release because Sony will stop disc production for new PS5 games starting January 2028 [4].
Alongside Catalyst, the Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis remake has also been delayed, now scheduled for February 12, 2027 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
Crystal Dynamics has faced four rounds of layoffs over the past year, which have affected development on the Tomb Raider projects [1, 3, 5]. Amazon Game Studios is concurrently focusing on expanding its Luna streaming platform while preparing to release these AAA titles [1, 2, 4, 5].
The two Tomb Raider games were first announced at the December 2025 Game Awards following a 2022 partnership between Amazon and Crystal Dynamics [1, 2, 3, 4].
Sony’s disc production cutoff in January 2028 means Catalyst will be digital-only on PlayStation 5, marking a shift in distribution for the franchise [4].
Legacy of Atlantis is now expected to release on February 12, 2027, while Catalyst has been pushed to launch sometime in 2028 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
