Ubisoft announced a fully 3D remake of the classic strategy game Heroes of Might and Magic 3 during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 26, 2026. The remake uses the Snowdrop engine and is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2027 [1, 2].

The updated version retains the original turn-based gameplay almost exactly, including all factions, campaigns, and the expansions Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death [1, 3, 4, 5]. It adds modern 3D visuals with dynamic lighting, seasonal effects, and an updated user interface featuring quality-of-life improvements. The remake will support original and community-made maps [1, 3, 4, 5].

Alongside the announcement, Ubisoft released the original Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete Edition on Steam for $10, which includes the base game and both expansions [1, 2]. However, the initial Steam launch was flawed, shipping only a 23.49 KB placeholder file rather than the full game data. This caused errors and prevented users from launching the game [2, 6].

About 10 to 11 hours after release, Ubisoft fixed the issue by pushing a 770 MB update that contained the full game files [2, 6]. Ubisoft issued a public apology, saying, "First, we'd like to apologize: we mistakenly released the wrong package yesterday. We're very sorry for the mistake. The issue has now been resolved. We'd like to thank everyone who alerted us to the problem. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your understanding and support" [6].

In addition to the remake and the Steam re-release, Ubisoft is developing Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, a retro-inspired prequel to Heroes 3. This game is currently in early access with a planned 1.0 release in 2027 [1, 5].
