Ubisoft announced Rayman Legends Retold, a full remake of the 2013 hit platformer Rayman Legends. The game retains the original 2D gameplay mechanics but features completely rebuilt 3D visuals using Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine. The remake will launch on October 1, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S consoles [1, 2, 3, 4].
The game introduces a new sixth world called The Land of the Livid Dead, adding five new levels, a new final boss, and a fresh platforming power for players to master [1, 5]. Visuals are upgraded with fully 3D characters and environments, enhanced lighting effects, new cutscenes, and full voice acting in eight languages. The core gameplay remains focused on 2D side-scrolling platform action, with some new 3D camera segments enhancing the experience [1, 2, 6, 4, 5].
Ubisoft has preserved the original level design and progression, while expanding interstitial story moments and hub areas to tie everything together more cohesively. Production director Alessandro Arndt Mucchi said, "In terms of story and world building, we felt like there was room for tying everything together, because there's a lot in it but it's a bit all over the place—and we wanted to set the starting point for the future of Rayman" [7, 5].
The expanded soundtrack features new musical stages and returns the popular Kung Foot minigame with new power-ups. Multiplayer remains local couch co-op for up to four players, with no online multiplayer support [1, 2, 3].
Rayman Legends Retold is co-developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan. Ubisoft brand producer Loïc Gounon said, "Rayman Legends Retold is our way of revisiting what makes Rayman so special, and re‑telling that experience for a new generation of players" [1, 2, 6, 3, 4, 5]. The remake is priced at $39.99.
The game aims to revive the Rayman franchise and bring it to new audiences. It was officially revealed during the June 2026 PlayStation State of Play showcase, following leaks about the remake and Rayman Origins Enhanced Edition in May [1, 2, 3]. Rayman Legends Retold will be released worldwide on October 1, 2026.
