The Soumoud 2 land convoy, carrying doctors, engineers, activists, and humanitarian aid, began its journey from Libya toward Gaza on May 15, 2026, aiming to deliver supplies through Egypt's Rafah crossing [1, 2]. The convoy started from the city of Zawiya, Libya, and includes more than 350 activists representing 30 countries such as Türkiye, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, Indonesia, China, the US, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the UK [2].

The convoy carries 50 containers in total, comprising 30 containers filled with humanitarian aid supplies and 20 mobile housing units. It is also equipped with five ambulances to support medical emergencies during transit [2]. The group paused in Libya’s northwestern city of Zliten on May 16, where passport inspections delayed progress for five and a half hours before the convoy resumed its journey [2].

This land mission is part of the Global Steadfastness Flotilla’s efforts to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza, which has been in place since 2007 and has created a severe humanitarian crisis for about 2.4 million people living in the territory [2]. Since October 2023, Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in more than 72,000 deaths and over 172,000 injuries [2].

Alongside the land convoy, the Global Sumud Flotilla launched a sea mission on May 14, 2026, with 54 ships setting sail from Marmaris, Turkey, also aiming to breach the blockade [2]. However, in late April 2026, Israeli forces intercepted Sumud Flotilla vessels in international waters near Crete, detaining 21 boats and about 175 activists involved in the maritime campaign [2].

The Soumoud 2 convoy’s next major objective is reaching Egypt’s Rafah border crossing to enter Gaza with its aid. The group aims to deliver medical supplies and housing units to alleviate urgent needs caused by ongoing conflict and blockade conditions [1].
