Malaysian police remanded 43-year-old Rosmaini Abd Raof for 7 days on Tuesday after arresting him at a homestay in Alor Setar over an alleged assault on his 39-year-old pregnant wife that led to a miscarriage after 12 weeks. [1]
Police said the attack took place last week at a house in Ambangan Heights, Sungai Petani, in northern Kedah, and left the woman seriously injured. [1]
The case was first reported by the victim's brother on May 3 after hospital staff alerted him to the alleged assault. The woman later made her own report on May 4, saying she was in severe pain. [1]
Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah said the suspect would "seek partners with stable jobs," according to police. [1]
Investigators have reclassified the case as voluntarily causing grievous hurt, an offence that can carry up to 20 years in prison, a fine or caning. Police said the seven-day remand will keep Rosmaini in custody while the inquiry continues. [1]
