Police arrested 44-year-old Teruyuki Takabayashi on Friday after a manhunt over a hammer attack on a 17-year-old high school student in Fussa, a suburb in western Tokyo. [1]
Police said the alleged attack happened on Wednesday morning between 7:15am and 7:25am near a restaurant in Fussa, where the victim was with a group of seven teenagers. [1]
Officers said Takabayashi also struck another high school student, who suffered minor injuries. Three police officers were taken to hospital after the incident. [1]
Police said Takabayashi was found alone in a flat in Narashino, Chiba Prefecture, before his arrest. They quoted him as saying, "I did not have the intent to murder." [1]
