Arsenal announced on July 22 they signed Spain goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez on a free transfer after she spent six seasons at Real Madrid [1, 2]. Rodriguez, 27, will join Arsenal’s Women’s Super League side for the 2026-27 season [3, 1, 4, 2].
Rodriguez made 215 appearances for Real Madrid, where she served as captain last year [3, 1, 4, 2]. She previously played for Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruña before joining Madrid, starting her youth career at CD Femarguin in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria [4].
Internationally, Rodriguez has represented Spain since 2021 and earned between 24 and 34 caps, depending on the source. She was part of Spain’s 2023 Women’s World Cup winning squad but lost her starting spot to Barcelona’s Cata Coll afterward [3, 1, 2].
Rodriguez has twice won the Zamora Trophy for conceding the fewest goals per game in the league [4]. She will compete at Arsenal for playing time with goalkeepers Daphne van Domselaar, Anneke Borbe, and Isabella Damm [3, 4].
Arsenal finished second in the WSL last season and reached the Women’s Champions League semi-finals. This summer, the club also signed Georgia Stanway, Ona Batlle, Selina Cerci, Geraldine Reuteler, and Lisa Baum [3, 1, 4].
Arsenal’s goalkeeping coach Renée Slegers praised Rodriguez as "a top goalkeeper who has performed consistently at a high level," citing her technical skills and leadership on the pitch [4]. Arsenal will start their 2026-27 WSL campaign with Rodriguez as they look to challenge Manchester City and others for the title.
