Chelsea sign French defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace for £52m

Chelsea completed the signing of French centre-back Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace in July 2026. The 26-year-old defender penned a contract lasting until 2032, with the transfer fee reported at £52 million ^{[1, 2, 3, 4]}.

Lacroix, capped seven times by France, played three games at the 2026 World Cup, where France finished fourth ^{[1, 3, 4]}. The defender made 55 appearances for Crystal Palace during the 2025-26 season, helping the club secure the UEFA Conference League title ^{[1, 2, 3, 4, 5]}.

He joined Crystal Palace in 2024 from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for a fee between £15.5 million and £18 million ^{[1, 2, 3]}. Known for his speed, commanding presence, and aerial ability, Lacroix is considered one of the top centre-backs in Europe ^{[2, 3, 5]}.

Chelsea have shifted their recruitment policy toward experienced players after finishing 10th in the previous Premier League season. The club also signed Morgan Rogers, Marco Palestra, Emmanuel Emegha, Geovany Quenda, Dastan Satpaev, and Denner in the summer of 2026 ^{[1, 3, 4, 5]}.
