Ecuador's Jhonatan Narvaez won stage four of the 2026 Giro d’Italia on May 12 in Cosenza, Italy, outsprinting Colombia's Orluis Aular and Italy's Giulio Ciccone on a steep uphill finish [1, 2]. The 138 km stage from Catanzaro featured a pivotal 14.5 km climb with gradients of up to 11%, which reduced the peloton to about 40 riders before the final sprint [1, 2].

Narvaez was recovering from a serious crash sustained in January at the Tour Down Under in Australia. After crossing the finish line, he said, "It's really big for me, coming after my Australian injury. This victory is for my team-mates after they crashed on stage two" [1]. His teammates on UAE Team Emirates-XRG had a major crash during stage two in Bulgaria on May 9 or 10, forcing Adam Yates, Jay Vine, and Marc Soler to abandon the race [1].

Italian rider Giulio Ciccone finished third on stage four, earning four bonus seconds that put him in the overall leader’s pink jersey. Ciccone now leads the general classification by 4 seconds over Jan Christen, Florian Stork, and Egan Bernal [1, 2].

Stage five, scheduled for May 13, will challenge riders with nearly 4,000 meters of climbing over 203 km from Praia a Mare to Potenza [2]. The 109th Giro d’Italia will conclude on May 31 in Rome [2].
