Manchester United agreed a £35 million (40.5 million euros) initial fee with Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Éderson on June 2, 2026 [1, 2]. Additional payments could push the total transfer value to about £38.8 million (45 million euros) [3, 1, 2].

Éderson, 26 years old and turning 27 next month, has made 180 appearances for Atalanta, scoring 16 goals. He has also earned three caps for Brazil [3, 1, 2]. The midfielder will sign a four-year contract with United running until June 2030, with an option for a further year through 2031 [3, 1, 2].

The transfer is set to be finalized in early July after Éderson passes a medical examination [3, 1, 2]. This will mark the first signing under Michael Carrick’s permanent management, following his appointment the previous month [3, 1, 2].

Manchester United are focusing on strengthening their midfield after Casemiro left the club at the end of May when his contract expired [3, 1]. Alongside Éderson, United are also linked with midfield targets such as West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, Real Madrid's Aurélien Tchouaméni, Brighton's Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson [3, 1, 2].

In addition to midfield reinforcements, United are looking to add a left-sided player and possibly striking support, with Newcastle’s Lewis Hall reportedly on their radar [3, 2]. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Andre Onana has been told he can pursue a move elsewhere but plans to return for preseason if no transfer occurs [3, 2].

Manchester United aim to complete the Éderson signing and announce it officially once medical clearance is secured in early July [3, 1, 2].
