Manchester United are nearing an agreement to sign 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder Éderson from Atalanta. The club reportedly agreed personal terms with Éderson on May 27 and expects to finalize the transfer imminently [1, 2].

The transfer fee is reported to be between £35 million and £42 million (approximately €45–48 million), with sources differing on the exact amount: some say £41.6 million, others £37 million, around €45 million, or £35 million [3, 1, 4, 2]. Éderson has one year left on his Atalanta contract and has played four seasons in Serie A [3, 1, 2].

Éderson has earned three full caps for Brazil but was not selected for its recent World Cup squad [3, 1, 2]. Manchester United see him as a key part of rebuilding their midfield following the departure of Casemiro and uncertainty over Manuel Ugarte’s future [3, 1, 2].

The club ended their pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who prefers a move to Manchester City, and are also tracking Botafogo’s Danilo and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes as midfield targets [3, 4, 2].

This comes after United reported profits of £37.7 million for the nine months ending March 31, 2026, with CEO Omar Berrada saying he was “very positive about the club’s progress” [3]. In January 2026, the club paid £16.7 million to dismiss former manager Ruben Amorim [3].

The transfer is expected to be completed soon, pending final agreements between Manchester United and Atalanta.
